Staying the Course on Health Equity Amid Murky DEI Terrain

Tuesday | October 15 | 8:30-9:15 am

In healthcare, our mission is to improve healthcare outcomes for all, but this is one of many uphill battles our industry navigates. Throughout the last few years, the country has in earnest begun to reckon with a long history of racial inequities, and the pandemic changed the entire nation’s perception of what it means to achieve equity in healthcare. Organizations have been working to right the ship for minoritized patients who have been chronically underserved and ensuring that the organization is better supporting employees who have been historically overlooked. In addition, employee expectations have changed, and they are more vocal about wanting the organizations they work for to foster a sense of belongingness that can result in better employee performance, and they are choosing with their feet.

These efforts have been a worthy challenge on their own, but there is a new added layer of difficulty amid recent state legislative decisions on equitable access to care, making it more difficult or unlawful for some patients to access care. How can health systems navigate and lead this complex work and best communicate these efforts to patients, employees, and partners while minimizing public concern?

Join BPD and Children’s Hospital Association as they discuss insights and advice on how to champion Health Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (HEDI) by addressing social drivers of health for patient populations.

Learning objectives for this session are:

  • Learn how to continue to make progress on your HEDI efforts despite the environmental pressures.

  • Learn unique strategies and language that will enable you to share your health equity efforts with your community and stakeholders.
